NAMPA, Idaho — Glen Rimbey, affectionately known as “Smiley,” is a beacon of hope and transformation inCALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) — Dorie Johnson has knocked off one of her final bucket list items, skydiving. It is something she has wanted to do since she was three years old. “I’ve always wanted to do this, so when I finally got the chance, I grabbed it!” said Johnson. Within nine days of sharing her dream, she was out at Skydive Skydown in Caldwell, ready to meet her instructor. “She just said he needs to be cute,” said Teresa Jordan, a CNA at Harrison’s Hope, the hospice care center Dorie lives in.

Her cheeky comment and desire to do something so thrilling wasn’t surprising to any of her loved ones. “She’s always been a free spirit and up for any adventure,” Said Janean Felch, Dorie’s daughter-in-law.

When she was asked if she was nervous, Dorie only laughed and asked how much longer she had to wait. “Can I do my happy dance now?” she asked when her instructor had gone over all of the flight rules and gotten her geared up and ready to go. Her enthusiasm was infectious, Chris Galt, her instructor, said, “She was so much fun on the plane ride up, you know, she was giving me some hugs, and she was reassuring me more than I was her.”

After landing, Dorie immediately asked, “Can we go again?” Her jump not only fulfilled her dream but also inspired others. “When I actually saw her come down and she had the smile of a lifetime on her face, it was absolutely just exhilarating,” Jordan said.

Dorie’s extraordinary life includes joining the Air Force and working as a camp cook in Alaska. She documented all her adventures in a scrapbook with ticket stubs, drawings, and stories. Her latest escapade will have its own page in her book. “I’m definitely going to make a blurb about it, you know, like I did the other things, and write a little story about it,” she said.

Reflecting on the jump, Dorie shared, “I was just happy as a clam. From the time I got in there to time I get out.” Already looking ahead, she has her sights set on her next adventure: “I want to ride in a helicopter, not as a patient, though.”
