Changes to Social Security Are Coming Soon!

As Bob Dylan once sang, “The times they are a changin’.” That statement could not be more true in the weeks to come regarding Social Security.

That’s right, the government’s regulation changes to Social Security officially go into effect on April 30, 2016.

Those who reached age 62 by the end of 2015 are still eligible to claim restricted benefits. If you reach age 62 after Dec. 31, 2015, you will not have this option.

Those who reach full retirement age, typically age 66, and file for Social Security benefits by April 30, 2016, will still be eligible to use the file and suspend strategy. After that, the strategy will be eliminated, making it impossible for anyone to collect benefits based on their (or someone else’s) work record while their benefits are suspended.
