NAMPA, Idaho (CBS2) — Cassie Knudsen, a 96-year-old volunteer, has been a dedicated presence at the Nampa Senior Center for three decades. Her commitment to the center has only grown over the years, particularly since 2021, when she increased her volunteer days from one to five days per week to help the thrift shop thrive.
“After COVID and when we were closed all the time, she asked to run the shop here,” said Nampa Senior Center coordinator Sam Atchley. “I’m like, oh my gosh, what a blessing. She’s done an amazing job.”
Knudsen’s work at the thrift shop has inspired many, including Nampa Senior Center volunteer Wilma Anderson, who said, “I’m amazed at the things that she can still do. It makes me think, well, maybe I better be trying!”
Knudsen says she was blessed with a 71-year marriage, a loving family and a great life. As you age, though, she suggests getting involved with your local senior center or volunteering.

“Find something to do that you enjoy, or you’ll soon enjoy it after you get involved,” said Knudsen. “It’s just a good thing. I would recommend that everybody would do it.”
Nampa Senior Center volunteer Sharon Bron works alongside Knudsen and praised her dedication, saying, “She is this thrift shop.”

Patti Copple, Knudsen’s daughter, added, “My mom is an inspiration. She just never stops giving and it’s been amazing for her because it gives her something to look forward to every day and she’s made great friends.”

The Nampa Senior Center has become a family for Knudsen and her fellow volunteers, who share the value of community and staying active as they age. They encourage others to find activities that bring joy and purpose.
“I think if you’re a senior citizen, you get really lonely if you stay at home,” said Anderson. “You can come here and you can sit by anybody and they’ll start a conversation.”
Congratulations to our B.O.S.S Retirement Solutions Silver Awards Winner, Cassie Knudsen!
